I used to ride my bike to college, work and home. For 3 years it was my only transportation and I loved it. But I'm older now and I've spent years taking advantage of the ease of hopping in the car and going regardless of weather, distance and time of day. Getting back into riding regularly is going to take some getting used again - particularly since I live in the country.

Bikes have changed a lot and the recumbent bikes are very comfortable, provide a stable ride and some can be Velo'ed (encased in a hard or soft shell). The advanced gearing systems can accomidate most riding ability as well as make hauling loads less strenuous. (See daVinci Gears) . Bike motors - both gas and electric are also options for distance and hauling small loads.
