Dairy Tips
Get good animals to start with. They might cost a little more but starting with healthy good stock will be easier to keep healthy.
Tips for good milk: We feed the girls good hay and happy girls make good milk!
There is no better way to get rich milk and butter than to give your girls good food, fresh air and sunshine.
Tips for good eggs: Fresh food for the hens will give you eggs low in cholesterol since chlorophyl reduces the bad fats in their system - it also reduces the bad fat in their eggs.
We give our working girls a good break between kidding or lambing. An extra month goes a long way in restoring their energy and gives them a little break between their long hours of milk production. Same for the hens, we don't give them copious amounts of light over winter to let them produce the body heat they need for winter.
We also wait an extra month before starting any girl out though it is not recommended to go much longer.
While carrying lambs or kids, we've been told not to over feed the girls or they will have problems birthing and though we haven't had any problems yet, it sounds like good advise.
